I remember taking these steps exactly a month ago while holding back indescribable feelings - loss? pain? those were quite not the right terms. I turned around to see what was up there. My final walk. Shadows were slowly turning into the sight of a mirage, tightly wrapped in obscurity with every second that passed. The trip, which I thought was the beginning of "our" next chapter, was playing its finale.
Until this very moment, those replays beat me up.
I had overflowing, lashing emotions and questions; my soul was jammed into the dark abyss. I could barely breathe, nor feel.
"I'm here. I'm finally here." That's how full my heart was. The love of my life was in sight. To my surprise, he said, "I'm just not there", that's how he began. I clearly remember looking into his eyes, holding on to his words and world, and hearing, "I can't do this anymore." He instantly wept. The clouds above his head seemed to clear up while it poured goodbyes onto everything.
And that's when I knew.
